Two projects in the California Area School District have been awarded state grants to enhance agricultural education and workforce development, according to Rep. Bud Cook (R-Greene/Washington). The funding comes from the 2026 Pennsylvania Ag and Youth Grant Program, which aims to support hands-on learning for students considering careers in agriculture.
“Agriculture is the leading industry in the Commonwealth and there are countless opportunities for young people to build rewarding careers in the field,” said Cook. “We’re proud to see this investment benefiting students in the 50th District. This helps to build a skilled workforce and keep opportunities close to home.”
The grants will fund two initiatives: $5,658 will go toward “The Greenhouse as a Living Classroom for STEAM,” while $24,000 is allocated for “Agri-Ready Youth Training in Veterinary and Animal Science.” Both projects are designed to give students practical experience and skills relevant to farming and related sectors.
The Ag and Youth Grant Program was established by the 2019 Pennsylvania Farm Bill. It offers both direct and matching grants for eligible organizations working on agricultural education, leadership development, vocational training, safety programs, field trips, capital improvements, or equipment purchases.
