Nearly $2.1 million in state funding has been allocated to infrastructure projects across Pennsylvania’s 50th District, according to an announcement by Rep. Bud Cook (R-Greene/Washington). The funds are aimed at supporting both transportation and water system improvements in the area.

“Investing in infrastructure is essential for safety, economic growth and quality of life in the 50th District,” said Cook. “These projects will improve roads, bridges and trails, while also strengthening water and sewer systems to better serve residents and businesses.”

The Commonwealth Financing Authority awarded the grants through its Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF) and Small Water and Sewer Program (SWS).

Under the MTF, several projects received funding:
– Center Township, Greene County: $180,000 was awarded for restoring Knight Hollow and Yorkshire roads.
– Greene County: $260,000 will go toward preliminary engineering for a new multi-use trail connecting Waynesburg and Wisecarver along South Fork Tenmile Creek.
– Jefferson Township, Greene County: $83,944 was provided to repair the Goslin Road culvert due to imminent collapse risks.
– Speers Borough, Greene County: $600,000 will be used for widening Arentzen Boulevard as part of a bridge improvement project that includes ADA-compliant sidewalks and street lighting.
– West Bethlehem Township, Washington County: $248,115 was granted for paving efforts on Loves Hill and Hainer roads.

The MTF aims to support economic development by ensuring safe transportation networks throughout Pennsylvania communities. Funds can be applied toward enhancing existing assets such as streetscapes or pedestrian safety measures.

For water system upgrades under the SWS program:
– The Authority of the Borough of Charleroi received $170,929 for equipment installation that will help detect leaks more efficiently in Somerset Township.
– Center Township secured $424,970 to construct new sewer lines connecting West Greene School District’s wastewater system with Rogersville’s facilities.
– Centerville Borough Sanitary Authority obtained $127,500 for replacing aging sewer lines in Richeyville.

The Small Water and Sewer Program provides grants ranging from $30,000 up to $500,000 for municipal projects related to water supply systems or flood control initiatives.
