Pennsylvania State Representative Bud Cook (R-Greene/Washington) is encouraging residents in the 50th District to participate in the “Defending Our Daughters” campaign, which supports female athletes across the state.
The campaign invites Pennsylvanians to sign the “I Believe” promise. This pledge emphasizes the rights of girls to have safe and fair competition, access to scholarships, and private locker rooms without males present. The initiative also calls on both citizens and state leaders to actively support and defend female athletes.
“Let’s be clear: men don’t belong in women’s sports,” Cook said. “We must stand together to protect fairness and opportunity for every female athlete in Pennsylvania.”
The “I Believe” promise can be signed online or at several local offices in Waynesburg and Brownsville. The collected information will be shared with Governor Josh Shapiro and House leaders as part of ongoing advocacy efforts.
According to Cook, House Democrats have not held votes on three bills intended to protect women’s sports during this legislative session. One bill that passed the Senate with bipartisan support was moved between committees in the House, a process used to avoid discharge resolutions that would require a vote. Two other similar bills were also referred away from committee votes late last year.
Cook continues his advocacy as these legislative efforts remain pending before various House committees.
