FOIA Request to Greene County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

In our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Southwest PA News have submitted a request for records under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law, 65 §66.1 et seq. The request was sent to the Greene County Election Department in Pennsylvania and specifically asked for information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.

The requested details include each candidate’s first, middle, and last name; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; and their party affiliation. We also asked for all available contact information for each candidate, including their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization, our role involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await a response from the Greene County Election Department and will continue to keep our readers informed about developments regarding this upcoming election.
