Jason Ortitay, an active commentator on educational policy, shared his insights through a series of tweets. The posts focused on employer needs in developing micro credentials and legislative actions regarding cell phone use in schools.
On July 10, 2025, Ortitay highlighted the importance of aligning micro credential development with employer requirements. He stated, “Important to ask what the employer needs in a potential employee in developing micro credentials. -Mississippi”.
Later that day, he noted Mississippi teachers’ interest in legislative measures to manage student cell phone usage. Ortitay wrote, “Mississippi teachers wanted legislation to ban cell phones in school.”
Additionally, Ortitay referenced similar legislative actions taken by other states concerning electronic devices in schools. He remarked that “WV and Rhode Island passed legislation requiring school districts have a policy on cell phones and personal electronic devices.”
In recent years, many states have grappled with policies addressing technology use within educational settings to balance learning opportunities and distractions.
