Reps. Tim O’Neal and Jason Ortitay are organizing a shredding event for residents of Washington and Allegheny counties. The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 26, at Hollywood Casino at the Meadows and aims to help citizens protect themselves from identity theft by securely destroying personal documents.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. O’Neal commented, “Identity theft remains a problem. There are many ways identity thieves steal data, but one of the simplest ways to prevent falling victim is to properly destroy documents containing sensitive information. I encourage all residents to participate.” Ortitay added, “I’m happy to partner with Rep. O’Neal for this event. Any steps you can take to avoid identity theft should be employed. I look forward to seeing residents take advantage of this opportunity.”
Attendees can bring items such as paper documents in quantities not exceeding three brown paper grocery bags or small cardboard boxes per household. Bags are preferred over boxes. However, the shredding service will not accept large binder clips, hardbound covers, or materials thicker than 1 inch.
Participants are asked to remain in their vehicles to expedite the process, and they should place the items for shredding in the trunk. For further information, contact O’Neal’s Washington district office at 724-223-4541 or Ortitay’s Canonsburg district office at 412-221-5110. The event is open to residents from specific areas within the 48th and 46th Legislative Districts.
