State Representatives Jason Ortitay and Lindsay Powell will present a legislative package aimed at strengthening protections for domestic violence victims, according to an April 6 announcement. The lawmakers plan to discuss the new measures at a press event scheduled for April 7 at the South Fayette Police Department.
The legislative effort follows concerns about gaps in current laws highlighted by a recent case involving a South Fayette Township man who attempted to murder his wife. The initiative seeks to address these legal shortcomings and improve safety measures for those affected by domestic violence.
Joining Ortitay and Powell at the event will be Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala and South Fayette Police Chief John Phoennik. Their participation underscores law enforcement’s role in both supporting victims and implementing changes that could arise from the proposed legislation.
The press conference is set to take place at 11 a.m., with live webstreaming available through RepOrtitay.com. Members of the media seeking more information can contact Tracy Polovick at tpolovick@pahousegop.com or call 717-260-6358.
This legislative announcement comes as communities continue to examine how existing laws can better serve those facing domestic violence, with local officials collaborating on solutions.
