Today, the Pennsylvania Senate passed legislation aimed at enhancing financial stability and government efficiency. The bill, sponsored by Senator Camera Bartolotta (R-46), is designed to optimize the use of tax dollars by improving the analysis of workforce development programs.
Senate Bill 101 mandates that existing data be shared with Pennsylvania’s 22 local workforce development boards promptly. This includes data on wages, new hires, and unemployment claimants, which will be provided by the Department of Labor and Industry and the Center for Workforce Information and Analysis.
“Leveraging the data we already collect just makes sense—it gives us a clearer picture of what’s working and what isn’t for Pennsylvanians striving for financial independence,” Bartolotta stated. “By identifying both the strengths and shortcomings of these programs, we can make smarter improvements that reach more people and ensure tax dollars are spent responsibly.”
Additionally, the bill provides technical assistance to ensure that the accessible data is beneficial for local workforce development boards. The legislation now advances to the House of Representatives for further consideration.
