Peters Township issued the following announcement on Oct. 22.

At approximately 7:45pm this evening, a severe storm cell began affecting our entire municipality. The worst of the damage occurred in the Venetia section of the township, affecting the following roadways: Bower Hill, Springdale, Sienna Trail, Buckingham, Hill Place, and Waterdam, among others. According to West Penn Power, approximately 1,000 residents are without power and they are currently working to restore it. Please use caution during your morning commute, as some roadways may be obstructed.

Peters Township Firefighters responded to (15) calls beginning at 8:00pm consisting of numerous trees and wires down, fire alarms, and a possible structure fire. These calls were answered by (3) on-duty firefighters, as well as (13) volunteer and career firefighters that responded to the station.

Due to the severity of the damage received in the above-mentioned areas, Fire Chief & Emergency Management Coordinator Michael McLaughlin, Jr. has requested a representative from the National Weather Service to survey the damage. Please dial 911 to report any damage to private or public property.

As always, we urge the public NOT to drive around barricades or approach downed wires. You can contact Peters Township Fire Department at 724-941-4176 or fire@peterstownship.com with questions.
