City of Washington issued the following announcement on Dec. 4.
City of Washington Mayor Scott Putnam has moved December’s Agenda and Regular Council meetings to the virtual Zoom format and closed City Hall to the general public following a spike in COVID-19 cases among employees. “We saw a significant number of cases in our police department and now we’re seeing spread in the administrative office. We are going to do whatever we can to protect the public and our employees,” Putnam said.
Council’s agenda meeting will be moved from Monday to Thursday, December 9th at 6:00 P.M. followed by the voting meeting at 7:00 P.M. More information is posted on the city’s website: www.washingtonpa.us
“We have been taking pro-active steps to sterilize our work areas and keep our employees and the public safe, but it’s been very difficult given the number of cases that continue to spread throughout the county,” Putnam said. The mayor said that he and city officials will continue to monitor the situation and determine a strategy for dealing with meetings and public access moving forward. “Obviously it’s a very fluid situation especially with the winter months upon us”.
