Rep. Bud Cook (R-Greene/Washington) has announced nearly $2 million in state infrastructure funding for the Southwestern Pennsylvania Water Authority (SWPA). The funding, awarded by the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST), will be used to extend a water line in Wayne Township, Greene County.
"It is always important to invest in our infrastructure to ensure the accessibility and reliability of a clean water supply," Cook said. "As we continue to encourage people to 'Come Home, Go Bill and Have a Ball' here in the 50th District, this is also a necessary investment in the quality of life in our communities."
The project will involve extending the water line approximately 23,000 feet to service customers currently served by the Brave Water and Sewer Authority (BWSA). In addition to the water line extension, valves, fittings, fire hydrants, and service connections will also be installed.
Once the project is completed, BWSA will no longer be a regulated water supplier, and SPWA will own, operate, and maintain the water system. This will ensure better control and management of the water supply in the area.
The funding provided by PENNVEST will support sewer, storm water, and drinking water projects across the Commonwealth. Since its inception in 1988, PENNVEST has been instrumental in improving infrastructure and providing grants and low-interest loans to communities and citizens.
Investing in infrastructure is crucial for the sustainable development and growth of communities. The funding announced by Rep. Bud Cook will not only improve access to clean water but also enhance the overall quality of life in Wayne Township and surrounding areas.
