Rep. Bud Cook (R-Greene/Washington) today congratulated United Mine Workers of America Career Centers Inc. (UMWACC) in Prosperity after its work was highlighted during a Commonwealth news conference Thursday.

“I often talk about the many assets, attractions and activities we have here in Greene County, and this career center is most definitely an outstanding asset to our community, our workers and the local economy,” Cook said. “It was an honor to be there yesterday as their great work was highlighted by the governor. Congratulations to Clemmy Allen, UMWACC executive director, and Chuck Knisell, vice president of UMWA Local 2300, for their achievements.”

First created in the mid-1990s to help dislocated mine workers, the center has evolved to focus on training new miners and helping existing miners upgrade their skills, as well as other adult vocational training, including mechatronics.

The news conference highlighted ongoing investments in workforce development and career and technical education opportunities designed to help give the workers of today and tomorrow a wide variety of options to support themselves and their families.

Chuck Knisell, vice president of UMWA Local 2300, addressed the crowd at a news conference highlighting United Mine Workers of America Career Centers Inc. in Prosperity.
