The Smith Family Farm in Center Township, Greene County, has been honored by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture as a Century Farm. Representative Bud Cook (R-Greene/Washington) participated in the celebration by presenting the family with a citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to recognize this generational achievement.

“Agriculture is such an important part of our Commonwealth’s past and our future thanks to hard-working families like the Smiths,” Cook said. “We are blessed by their commitment to farming and to putting food on our tables.”

Originally purchased in 1901 by James and Fannie Stewart, the Smith Family Farm has been owned and operated by three generations of the family. It has been under the ownership of Sharon Kay Smith since 1974. The farm comprises more than 360 acres, including approximately 133 acres from the original tract. The farm grows produce and raises Black Angus cattle.

The state Department of Agriculture created the Century Farm award to honor farm families who have contributed to the Commonwealth’s economic and rural heritage. The award was presented Thursday at Penn State’s Ag Progress Days.
