Rep. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) announced he will co-host a seminar with Seniors for Safe Driving on Thursday, Oct. 10, aimed at helping mature drivers improve their skills.

The PennDOT-approved program is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at South Strabane Volunteer Fire Department Station 2, located at 172 Oak Spring Road, Washington. Attendees will receive a free lunch.

“As many mature drivers first received their driver’s licenses decades ago, a refresher on traffic laws and best practices can be helpful,” O’Neal said. “No behind-the-wheel instruction will be provided. Instead, all learning will occur in the classroom. Prior participants have found this seminar helpful, and the discount on vehicle insurance is a plus.”

Participants in the course will learn about current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques, and how to operate their vehicles safely in today's challenging driving environment. There will be no on-the-road driving or classroom testing.

The cost to attend is $17, paid directly to Seniors for Safe Driving. Participants will receive a 5% discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years. To register, call 1-800-559-4880 or visit . For additional information, contact O’Neal’s district office at 724-223-4541.

The 48th Legislative District in Washington County includes the city of Washington; Amwell; part of Carroll (Districts 3, 4 and 5); East Finley; Fallowfield; Morris; North Franklin; part of North Strabane (Districts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5); Nottingham; Somerset; South Franklin; South Strabane; West Finley townships; and the boroughs of Donora, East Washington and Green Hills.
