More than $4.7 million in state grants have been allocated to school districts and municipalities within the 50th Legislative District, according to an announcement by Rep. Bud Cook (R-Greene/Washington).

“My bosses – the residents and local leaders in Greene and parts of Washington counties – have identified key needs for their schools and communities, and these grants deliver the help they need to get the projects moving forward,” Cook stated. “Each of these grants represents an important investment in the health, safety and quality of life in our region.”

The funds include four grants from the statewide Local Share Account program, which is funded by state gaming revenues. The awarded projects are as follows:

- Center Township received $850,000 for a sanitary sewer extension project. This includes replacing the existing wastewater treatment plant at West Greene School District and installing additional piping to serve over two dozen homes currently relying on failing on-lot sewage disposal systems.

- East Bethlehem Township was granted $743,210 for demolishing four blighted structures located on First Street, Community Street, College Avenue, and Ridge Street. The future plans for these properties involve creating a historical park, housing, and potential business opportunities.

- Greene Township was awarded $128,051 to purchase a new dump truck equipped with a plow and spreader to enhance maintenance of its 32 miles of roadway.

- Morris Township secured $505,521 to expand its community center with outdoor amenities such as a playground, pavilion, and new pathways connecting various locations.

Additionally, two school districts in the area received grants through the Public School Facilities Improvement Grant Program:

- Bethlehem-Center School District was allocated $1.5 million for updating the HVAC and boiler system at Bethlehem-Center Elementary School.

- Jefferson-Morgan School District obtained $1 million for a roof replacement and HVAC project at Jefferson-Morgan Elementary School.

These grants were given final approval during a meeting of the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
