Rep. Bud Cook has expressed concerns over Governor Josh Shapiro's decision to appeal a court ruling that would have ended the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) in Pennsylvania. The initiative, described by Cook as a "multi-state energy tax program," is said to potentially increase utility costs and threaten jobs within the state.

Cook criticized the initiative, likening it to other environmental regulations he views as harmful to businesses and employees in Pennsylvania. He stated, "It pains me to see Pennsylvania’s version of a ‘Green New Deal’ and progressive political agendas raid local communities and jeopardize the future of thousands of employees."

He urged Governor Shapiro to engage with citizens in affected areas, saying, "Gov. Shapiro needs to visit Greene and Washington counties, as well as communities throughout the state." Cook emphasized the need for transparency from the governor regarding why Pennsylvanians should face increased costs for energy.

In his statement, Cook called on Shapiro to explain his actions directly to those impacted: "Give me a date and a time, Mr. Governor, and I will gladly arrange a location... At the very least, you should explain yourself to those Pennsylvanians and answer their questions."

Representative Bud Cook serves Pennsylvania's 50th Legislative District. For further inquiries, Patricia Hippler can be contacted at 717-772-9846 or via email at phippler@pahousegop.com.
