A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Washington County Election Department regarding all candidates running in the upcoming election on February 5, 2025.
The request was made by Southwest PA News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. As part of their commitment to transparency and public accountability, they have sought information under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law.
Specifically, Southwest PA News has requested an electronic format list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. The details requested include each candidate's first, middle, and last name; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation.
In addition to these details, Southwest PA News has also asked for contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we at Southwest PA News believe access to public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
