Rep. Bud Cook has announced that 32 fire and emergency services departments in the 50th District have been awarded grant funding. The grants, administered by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, are intended for construction, renovation, equipment purchases or repairs, and existing debt reduction.
Cook emphasized the importance of these funds, stating, “Properly funding our fire and emergency services in Greene and Washington counties is essential to providing a safe and prosperous environment to live in.” He expressed gratitude for first responders, including volunteers who serve the community.
The recipients of these grants are spread across Greene County and parts of Washington County. In Greene County, organizations such as Carmichaels and Cumberland Township Volunteer Fire Department received $27,461.31, while Waynesburg Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company was awarded $16,322.02. Washington County recipients include Bentleyville Volunteer Fire Department with $15,000 and Stockdale Volunteer Fire Department receiving $24,879.17.
The funding comes from a legislative grant program supported by proceeds from slot machine gaming rather than General Fund tax revenue.
