Rep. Bud Cook has announced that 32 fire companies and ambulance squads in the 50th District covering parts of Greene and Washington counties have been awarded grant funding. The grants, managed through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, are intended for construction, renovation, equipment purchases or repairs, and reduction of existing debt.

Cook emphasized the importance of funding these essential services, stating, “Properly funding our fire and emergency services in Greene and Washington counties is essential to providing a safe and prosperous environment to live in. I am ever grateful for our many first responders, including many volunteers who step in the line of duty to provide these services and protect the 50th District.”

In Greene County, the recipients include Carmichaels and Cumberland Township Volunteer Fire Department, receiving $27,461.31, and Waynesburg Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company, receiving $16,322.02, among others.

In Washington County, grant recipients include Bentleyville Volunteer Fire Department, receiving $15,000, and California Volunteer Fire Department, receiving $13,309.52, along with several others.

Funding for these grants is sourced from a grant program established by the Legislature and financed by proceeds from slot machine gaming, rather than General Fund tax revenue.
