Rep. Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) announced today that the Carroll Township Authority and Morris Township have been awarded almost $75,000 in Sewage Facilities Program grants. O’Neal, who advocated for the funding, explained that these grants are crucial for the maintenance and upgrade of sewage disposal systems in order to prevent environmental and health hazards.
The funding was secured through the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s (CFA) Sewage Facilities Program, which was established under Act 13 of 2012. This act allocated funds from the Marcellus Legacy Fund to the CFA for statewide initiatives to comply with the Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities Act, also known as Act 537. As part of the grant requirements, the recipients are required to provide a 50% match of the total project cost.
Speaking about the importance of these grants, O’Neal stated, "Proper maintenance and upgrades to sewage disposal systems are essential in order to accommodate demand and prevent environmental and health hazards. These systems were built years ago. In the ensuing years, technology has evolved, and additional residences and businesses have been added. These grants will help ensure the systems are operating effectively for years to come."
The Carroll Township Authority has been awarded a $36,668 grant, which will be used for an official Act 537 sewage facilities update. On the other hand, Morris Township received $38,017 for Act 537 planning for Prosperity Village.
The 48th Legislative District in Washington County, which is represented by O'Neal, encompasses a wide area, including the city of Washington and various townships and boroughs. Tim O’Neal and the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Sewage Facilities Program, these grants will contribute to the overall well-being of the communities in the 48th District.
