Rep. Tim O’Neal of Washington County has responded to a proposal by Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato for a significant property tax increase. The proposed tax hike, described as the largest in the county's Home Rule Charter history, has sparked criticism from O'Neal.

“It’s not surprising that in her first year as county executive Sara Innamorato is apparently intent on bringing disastrous California politics to western Pennsylvania," said O'Neal. He expressed concern over the impact of a 46.6% property tax increase on families and seniors amid rising inflation and costs.

O'Neal extended an invitation to Allegheny County residents dissatisfied with the proposal, highlighting Washington County's low taxes and high quality of life. “Washington County welcomes Allegheny County residents who have had enough," he stated.

The representative emphasized Republican efforts to address inflation without raising taxes. He mentioned his earlier proposal aimed at reducing the Personal Income Tax and eliminating a tax on electricity bills, which he claimed would return about $3 billion annually to Pennsylvania taxpayers.

O'Neal urged the Allegheny County Council to reconsider Innamorato’s plan, suggesting they focus on cutting waste instead. "If not, further exodus of residents will occur, exacerbating Allegheny County’s problems,” he warned.

The 48th Legislative District in Washington County includes various townships and boroughs such as Amwell, East Finley, North Franklin, and Donora.
