Rep. Bud Cook (R-Greene/Washington) is organizing an event to assist local residents with illegible license plates in obtaining replacements. The event will take place on Thursday, July 11, from 3-6 p.m. at the Greene County Fairgrounds, Building 8.
In collaboration with the Pennsylvania State Police, a limited number of free backpacks containing school supplies will also be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
“I am pleased to work with our local State Police to help both drivers and students in our community,” said Cook.
According to state law, PennDOT must replace license plates deemed illegible at no cost to vehicle owners. A plate is considered illegible when one or more numbers or letters cannot be recognized from 50 feet away due to issues such as blistering, peeling, discoloration, loss of reflectivity, or other damage. Law enforcement must verify that a plate is illegible.
“Illegible plates can potentially lead to fines for drivers, so I encourage anyone concerned about the status of their license plate to take advantage of this opportunity,” Cook stated.
Participants should bring their unexpired PA driver’s license and current vehicle registration card. Reservations are required for the license plate replacement and can be made by calling Cook’s office at 724-929-2660 or by signing up online at RepBudCook.com/Events.
